1. Giving Tuesday

Greetings Camp Centurion Supporters,

As the leaves begin to change and the crisp air of fall surrounds us, we're reminded once again of the warmth that comes from a supportive community. Each one of you, through your unwavering commitment and kind hearts, has helped bring a glimmer of hope into the lives of countless homeless veterans.

This November, we have a special opportunity to amplify our impact: Giving Tuesday on November 28th.

We understand that there are many deserving organizations out there, each with its own mission and story. But today, we'd like to share a few reasons why supporting Camp Centurion this Giving Tuesday will create lasting ripples in the lives of our nation's heroes:

1. Personal Stories: Meet Rob, a Marine Corp veteran who once felt the harsh sting of life on the streets. Through Camp Centurion, Rob found not just a home, but a renewed sense of purpose. There are hundreds more like Rob, each with their own story of resilience and hope, all thanks to supporters like you.
2. Focused Impact: Every penny donated goes directly to helping homeless veterans rebuild their lives. From housing and food to job training and mental health support, your contributions create tangible, life-altering change.
3. The Debt of Gratitude: Our veterans have made immense sacrifices for our freedom and safety. By supporting them in their time of need, we're merely repaying a tiny fraction of the debt we owe.

As you consider where to direct your generosity this Giving Tuesday, we humbly ask that you think of Camp Centurion. Think of the many veterans who, right now, are seeking a way out of despair. Think of the immense difference your donation can make in their lives.

In a world overflowing with causes, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. But the beauty of empathy is that it allows us to see the person behind the cause, to truly understand their journey and to stand beside them in solidarity.

Join us this Giving Tuesday and let's ensure that every homeless veteran knows they're not forgotten, that their service is honored, and that there's a community ready to embrace them.

2. 1st Annual Gratitude Luncheon

Come and join us for our 1st Annual Gratitude Luncheon on the 18th of November between the hours of 12 PM and 3 PM. We will be having some delicious homemade BBQ, fixings, and desserts.

The meal is free, but donations will be accepted. We will have several other fundraising items going on that day including a Haircut Drive ($10 each) and the sale of some buttons. But by no means is this the intent of the Gratitude Luncheon. We strive to just gather together to thank everyone who has poured into our labor of love here at Camp Centurion. Whether it was with supplies, monetary donations, or some of that volunteer sweat equity we are so very grateful for each and every one of you. Without your help, we would not be housing four Veterans right at this very moment!

May our hearts be filled with gratitude, and may it continue to light our path as we move forward.

3. Community Spotlight

• Gaston College Early High School partners with Camp Centurion for much needed supplies. They collected 23 cases of water, 6 cases of drinks, 10 two liter drinks, 12 containers of washing detergent pods, 44 rolls of paper towels and 112 rolls of toilet paper to supply Camp Centurions needs for months to come. Totaling around 43 students for all four high school grade levels these students took on this community service project and really surprised us!

• Wild & Free Homeschool Group of Catawba County partners with Camp Centurion to provide personnel letters and various snack foods to our housed Veterans. It is composed of 37 students ranging in age from 5 years old to 15 years old. We are very grateful for the kind handedness of these children.
• King's Legacy Transport: Sergeant First Class (retired) Cory Hinkle, owner of King's Legacy Transport delivers a pallet of water to Camp Centurion donated by World Wide Imports, Lincolnton, NC. Thank you both for your generosity and giving to Camp Centurion.

4. From the Director

If you know a Veteran in need please do not hesitate to contact us. We not only help with housing but we have a strong network of people and affiliated organizations that can assist with a myriad of items for Veterans. Again, I would like to thank our donors, our community, and our board of directors for giving me the opportunity to help give back to those who have given so much for each of us.

As Veteran's Day is approaching, if you are a Veteran I ask you to pause and reflect on your service to protect the very freedoms that we cherish. If you aren't a Veteran I ask you to not only thank a Veteran for their service; but ask them what they cherished most about their time protecting the freedoms that we all cherish.

5. Chaplain's Corner

The upcoming November 18th Gratitude Luncheon has me thinking about the importance of gratitude.

97-year-old, Benedictine monk David Steindl-Rast said, "It is not happiness that makes us grateful; It is gratefulness that makes us happy." Robert A. Emmons, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at the University of California, Davis and author of The Little Book of Gratitude says, "Gratitude is good medicine. Clinical trials indicate that the practice of gratitude can have dramatic and lasting effects in a person's life. It can lower blood pressure and improve immune function... Grateful people engage in more exercise, have better dietary behaviors, are less likely to smoke and abuse alcohol and have higher rates of medication adherence."

There is another word that rhymes with gratitude and is just as important and that word is attitude. Our attitude comes directly from our perspective. Perspective can be deceptive, making that which is insignificant appear important and, conversely, that which is important appear insignificant.

Some time ago, I was having my vehicle serviced and chatting with the service manager. I was telling him that I had suffered permanent nerve damage during surgery for a hip replacement and that, as a result, I must wear a leg brace. As I was in the process of lamenting my condition, another customer walked in. Both his legs were cut off just above the knees and he was "walking" on the remaining stumps. Immediately, I gained a new perspective, and my major problem suddenly became very minor.

When we become Christian by trusting Jesus, we gain the ability to see through His eyes, and this ability enables us to view people, events and life from His perspective. Among the people we can then view through Jesus' eyes is...ourself.

With this God-given ability to view life from Jesus' perspective, we are able to maintain an... Attitude of Gratitude.
